SPARTA, NJ – The Field House was filled with lacrosse players of all ages on Monday. For the month of Feb the Sparta High School girls lacrosse players together with their coach Kate Brennan have been volunteering their time, running a clinic for the youth players.
Approximately 20 girls were on the indoor field doing drills one on one or two on one. There were even a couple of boys working out as well.
“The idea is to teach them the basics,” said Brennan. “They are learning some basic drills that they can practice at home in the yard with their moms and dads.”
The clinics were sponsored by the high school booster club and the rec program.
“I like it because it is an easy way for girls who are on the fence to try it without the whole commitment,” said Heidi Byrne coach of the recreation fifth and sixth grade team. She also has two children that play lacrosse.
“It’s all about community,” said Brennan.
