ROCKAWAY, NJ – Sparta High School track athlete Gianna Macones set the season record in New Jersey for her triple jump on Saturday at Morris Hills High School Varsity Relays. Her 39.04 triple jump put her in the number one slot in the state.

Macones is “excited to start off with a strong mark early on.”  She now qualifies her for New Balance Nationals in North Carolina in June.

She is a multi-event athlete competing in hurdle, sprint and relay races as well as the long jump.  Macones’ skills got her to Arcadia Nationals in California two weeks ago.  There she placed 14 in triple jump and 23 in hurdles.

In March she competed in the New Balance National Indoor Championship in New York City where the 4x55 meter shuttle hurdle relay team of Macones, Carlie Wilson, Emily Kosker and Zoe Canzoniero finished eighth.

Gianna’s goal for this spring season is “to hit 40 plus feet.” She will attend Bucknell University in the fall where she will continue her track career competing in jumps, hurdles and sprints.
