COLUMBUS, NJ – Sparta High School was represented by two track athletes at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions on Saturday, June 9. Gianna Macones and Carlie Wilson participated having finished at the top of their events in the Group 2 championship last week.
Macones took second in the long jump establishing a new Sparta High School and Sussex County record with a 19’4” jump. She took ninth in the triple jump.
Wilson tied for 11 place in the high jump.
The top 30 individuals and top 24 relays in New Jersey were invited to go head-to-head at Northern Burlington Regional High School.
According to Coach Richard Heckman, the next and final competition of the season will be at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, North Carolina. Four girls will be representing Sparta High School at the event next weekend.
Macones will be triple jumping and Wilson will be high jumping. Zoe Canzoniero, Emily Kosker, Macones and Wilson will compete in the 4 x 100 meter Shuttle Hurdles. This Sparta team is currently ranked number one in New Jersey according to Heckman.
