SPARTA, NJ – Sparta High School softball shutout Pope John on Tuesday 7-0 on the Spartan's home field. Olivia Bouma-Hannam led the team, going 3-for-4 with a single, a double, a triple and an RBI.  She crossed the plate three time for Sparta.

Jessica Esso, Tatiana Esteva-Ingram, Carolyn Jacobs and Paige Smith each added one to the score.

Sparta was up 2-0 going into the fifth.  With two outs they rallied and scored two.  The girls put up three more in the sixth.

Smith went the distance for the shutout, throwing 12 strikeouts allowing only four hits and two walks.

Sparta’s record moves to 12-6.  They host Morris Hills on Wednesday.
