SPARTA, NJ – Sparta High School softball shut out Pope John on Saturday 9-0 on the Lion’s turf.  Pitcher Paige Smith earned another shutout in the one-hitter, making this number nine for the senior.

Smith had 11 strikeouts allowing only one walk.  She also went 3-for-3 scoring each time. 

Slow and steady, the Spartans added runs inning after inning.  It was a team effort.  Tatiana Esteva-Ingram and Erin Scott both batted .500 scoring twice. Scott earned an RBI.

Olivia Bouma-Hannam and Jessica Esso each scored once.  Esso had an RBI.

Stephanie Villar and Isabella DeFillipis contributed with two RBIs each.  Carolyn Jacobs had an RBI.

Second seed Sparta will play number one seed Indian Hills on Tuesday in Oakland for the final round of the NJSIAA North 1, Group 3 tournament.

Sparta’s season record stands at 19-6.
