SPARTA, NJ – All the action happened in the fourth inning of the quarterfinal round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex softball tournament on Sparta’s home field.  Sparta beat Voorhees 4-1 on Saturday.

Voorhees had scored a run at the top of the fourth.  It was bases loaded with two outs when Kylie Wells hit a grand slam home run, sealing the win.  No one else from either team crossed the plate for the remaining three innings.

Courtney McKenna went 2-for-3 with two singles.  Erin Scott walked twice, scoring on the Wells homer.   Emily Irwin was also on base for Wells’ home run.

Pitcher Paige Smith threw all seven innings getting four strike outs, giving up four walks and two hits.  She also went 1-for-3 with a double.

Sparta will face Kittatinny on May 7 in the semi-final round.
