MADISON, NJ – Sparta High School winter track teams were back in action at Drew University on January 11 for the Valentine Invitational and on January 9 for the Back Invitational.  The Spartan boys and girls joined teams from 25 other high schools at both meets.

In the Valentine Invitational Gianna Macones took first place in the 55 meter dash and third in the 55 meter hurdles.  Jake Galluccio earned a third place in the high jump.

Earlier that week Carlie Wilson finished in fourth in the 55 meter hurdles.  Galluccio grabbed a fourth place in the high jump.

The girls 4 x 400 meter relay team of Julia Wilson, Carlie Wilson, Emily Kosker and Zoe Canzoniero took home third place. 

A select group of track athletes had traveled to Penn State University on ??? to compete in the Dare Invitational at the Horace Ashenfelter Complex.  Sparta represented New Jersey, competing against 67 schools from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, New York, Delaware and Washington D.C.

Sparta was well represented:

  • 400 meters - Carlie Wilson finished 10th
  • 55 meter hurdles - Gianna Macones finished 5th,  Canzoniero finished 11th and Kosker finished 17th
  • High Jump Carlie - Wilson finished 6th
  • Mile Run - Brayden Jensen finished 16th.
