TOMS RIVER, NJ – Sparta’s track team was running again, this time at the NJSIAA Sectional Championships for North Groups 2 and 3 last Sunday, Feb 7.  And again, Sparta came through with another set of impressive performances.

In the Boys High Jump, junior Andrew Pondiscio cleared a height of 6’2” in order to take first place in the event.  While it was not his personal best, he has hopes that time off will prepare him for the Group meet at which he hopes to excel.

Cayleigh Glew, also a junior, also had a first place finish.  In the Girls 55m Hurdle Finals, Glew ran a time of 8.66 seconds, which propelled her to the gold medal finish. In addition, Glew is also moving on to Groups for her efforts in the 55m Dash.  In that event she took second overall with a time of 7.57 seconds.

  • Jason Rotondi – seventh overall in the Boys 55m Dash with a time of 6.99 seconds and 8th overall in Boys High Jump with a height of 5’6”
  • Ben Davis  – ninth overall in Boys Shot Put with a distance of 40’4”
  • Boys 4x400 Relay Team consisting of Rohan Drummond, Max Carlson, Steve Saba and Andrew Pondiscio  – seventh overall with a time of 3:43.68
  • Joe Spekhardt – Finals Appearance in the Boys 55m Hurdles

As for the athletes moving on, a week’s rest should be beneficial.  But Glew, Macones, and Pondiscio will be heading back down to Toms River on Saturday, Feb 20 to compete at the NJSIAA Groups Championship North Groups 2 and 3.
