SPARTA, NJ – Sparta High School varsity soccer teams squared off against Pope John.  The girls hosted at Station Park losing 7-1.  The Pope John team scored early finding the net four times within the first minutes of the first half.  Only one Sparta shot found its way past Pope John’s goalie Franki Whritenour. 

Sparta boys traveled across town to play on the turf at Pope John.   Sparta won in a goal from Ritchie Barry assisted by Rob Paniti.  The Sparta goalies split the game.  Scott Altieri had three saves and Ben Insley had six to hold the Lions scoreless.

The boys are now 3-2 for the season.  They will host Parsippany Hills on Thursday, Sept 18 at 4pm.

The girls fall to 3-2 so far.  They will travel to Parsippany Hills on Thursday, Sept 18.
