SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta High School girls volleyball team has had a good run winning their last three games.  They beat Morris Knolls on Wednesday 2-0, Vernon 2-1 eight service points as well with two assists and three aces. 

on Tuesday and shut out Morris Hills on Friday, Oct 14.

They took Morris Knolls in two games 25-11 and 25-19.

“I am very proud of everyone, winning two games in a row,” Senior Emily Lake said.  “We were exhausted and we still pulled it out in two sets.”

The girls are preparing to play in the quarterfinal round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament on Friday, when they will play Delaware Valley at home.

“It’s going to be a good game on Friday,” Lake said.  “It’s the first time in a long time we’ve played in states.  I’m excited.”

The girls are 13-7 with three regular season games to go against Mendham, Jefferson and Pope John.

SPARTA, NJ – A man stopped for driving through a red light on Route 15 wound up facing drug charges.  On March 30 Sparta Police Officer Thomas Herd pulled over Steven Lassends, 27in a black Infinity, on Route 15, police say.

Sparta Police: Traffic Stop Ends in Pot Arrest

SPARTA, NJ – A man from Ogdensburg is facing pot charges after a traffic stop on April 4 around 11 p.m. Police Office Thomas Herd pulled over a green Honda driven by John Malone, 23 for failing to move to the right lane, police report.

Herd smelled marijuana when speaking with Malone.  Malone admitted there was a “small marijuana roach” left in his car by a friend.
