SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta High School varsity wresting team has been working hard for this season.  Head Coach Frank Battaglia leads the team for his seventh season, hoping for the school’s first back to back section titles.  The team is looking to build on the success of the 2016 -2017 season with eight key returning wrestlers.

Veteran varsity team members Robbie Gannat, Carter Sheridan, Garrett Stewart, Cooper Stewart, Rocco Gigantelli, Mason Minetti, Kevin Bernil and Chris Hwang will be joined by newcomers Spencer Stewart and Troy Schmitzer.

Gennat is getting some looks from colleges to continue his wrestling career after graduation. According to Battaglia, Gennat is expected to break the 100 win mark this season.  He is also in position to break the school record for most wins Bettaglia said.
