STOCKHOLM, NJ – The regular season is coming to a close for Sparta High School ice hockey as they faced off against Jefferson on Tuesday. The game ended in a 3-3 tie at Skyland’s Ice World.
Sparta found the net first with a goal by Matt Redding assisted by Connor Erickson and Jeremy Dericks.
Jefferson tied it up at the end of the first period.
Sergei O’Sullivan finished up the first period with a goal on a rare penalty shot.
Jefferson took the lead with two unanswered goals in the second period.
Sparta’s Connor Erickson made the final goal of the game to end in a tie on an assist from Dericks and Nolan Kafafian.
Even the shots on goal were close in this even match with 10 for Sparta and 11 for Jefferson.
With only one game left to the season Sparta has dropped to second place in the MCSSIHL Haas Conference for the first time this season with a conference record of 5-3 and a total season record of 8-12-2. The standings are still up for grabs.
As of Thursday two Spartans are ranked in the top 20. Brendon Erickson has 22 goals putting him in five way tie for 11 place ranking. Connor Erickson has 37 total points for a ranking of 16.
Sparta and Newton play on Saturday night for their third matchup of the season. The puck drops at 7:20 p.m. at Skylands
