MORRISTOWN, NJ – Sparta Jefferson United ice hockey earned a tie with Mendham on Wednesday at Mennen Arena.  The close game included a power play goal for each team.  SJU had penalty trouble that added up to 23 minutes.

SJU’s Kyle Sutton got the only point of the first period on a power play.  Sutton was assisted by Matthew Francescutto and Matt Espinoza.

Mendham got their own power play goal in the second period.  Holding SJU scoreless, they took the lead with a second goal on a delayed penalty.

It looked like the Minutemen were skating away with the win early in the third when they added a third goal but SJU came back with two of their own.

Josh Harmel and Sutton each got one past Mendham’s goalie.  Alex Cohen assisted on both goals. 

SJU goalie stopped 35 shots in the outing. SJU put 17 shots on net.

SJU will host Roxbury at Skylands Ice World at 4 p.m. on Saturday.  Their record stands at 0-2-2.
