STOCKHOLM, NJ – It was one more for the win column for Sparta Jefferson United ice hockey on Monday night when they beat Paramus 4-1 at Skylands Ice World.

With one more game in the regular season, SJU is ending the first year as a co-op team with a strong winning record of 12-4-3.  This record has kept them in second place in their division behind Roxbury.

“We are looking to keep the momentum going as we get to playoffs,” Captain Jeremy Dericks said.  “We’ve had a good season so far.”

Dericks and Connor Erickson teamed up against Paramus with a goal and an assist for both of them.

SJU’s first goal came from Connor Erickson on a power play, with the assist from Brendan Erickson and Dericks.  Paramus returned the favor, scoring on a power play before the end of the period.

Mike King scored unassisted in the second period to take the lead for SJU.

Dericks scored on the cross-ice pass from Connor Erickson for the third goal, coming at the end of the second period. 

Nick King would put the icing on the cake for SJU with an unassisted goal in the last minute of play.

Logan Hanek, SJU goalie saved nine Paramus shots.  He has seen 261 shots this season, stopping 232 for an 89 percent success rate.

Jake Moran stopped 26 SJU shots.

The co-op team plays the final game of the season against West Morris on Saturday beginning at 4 p.m. at Skylands Ice World.
