STOCKHOLM, NJ – Sparta Jefferson United lost to Morris Knolls on Saturday afternoon 5-2.  Playing on their home ice, SJU took on the Golden Eagles in a crossover game, playing the second ranked team in the higher Mennen league. 

"I think we played a solid game against Morris Knolls," Connor Erickson said.  "Eeryone gave the game their best effort and by the third period we found some way s to score."

While they outshot Knolls 38-18, SJU was held scoreless until the end of the third period.  Brandon Erickson scored on a power play assisted by Nick King and Jeremy Dericks.

Connor Erickson got the second SJU goal with less than 30 seconds left on the clock.  He was assisted by Brandon Erickson.

Brendan Erickson has 11 goals and 10 assists so far this season. He has 105 high school points so far.  

SJU goalie Logan Hanek stopped 13 shots.  Morris Knolls goalie Andrew Rush stopped 36 SJU shots.

This is the first season that the Sparta and Jefferson high school teams are playing together.  They have put together a winning record so far of 6-3-2.   

"Teams are underestimating the way we can play with this new co-op team," Connor Erickson said.  "So far it's going really well.  We hope to make a run in the playoffs."

SJU will play Pequannock on Monday at Skylands Ice World.  The puck drops at 5:40 p.m.
