STOCKHOLM, NJ – Sparta Jefferson United was dealt a crushing blow losing to undefeated Roxbury 9-2.  The teams clashed on Saturday night at Skylands Ice World. 

Early in the contest the play was tough but even.  It was a multitude of penalties assessed against a player leaving SJU shorthanded for nine minutes.

Roxbury scored two unanswered goals in the first period.  Zack Harmel scored a shorthanded goal in the second period.  Connor Erickson would get the only other Sparta goal coming midway through the third period.

“We were playing well against a team we knew would be tough,” said Captain Jeremy Dericks.  “Then we took a bad penalty and it took us out of the game.”

Logan Hanek saw 33 shots in net for JSU.  Roxbury’s goalie also saw 33 shots.

With a record of 4-2-1 Sparta Jefferson United will play a non-league game against Nutley on Monday.  The puck will drop at 5:40 at Skylands Ice World.
