SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta Jefferson United varsity ice hockey team’s home opener at Skylands Ice World against Montville ended 2-2.  The young SJU team played hard from the first drop of the puck to the last whistle, showing good puck control.

“They came to win,” a Montville coach told his players on the bench.

The Mustangs needed to be on the power play to get the puck past SJU goalie Logan Hanek.  Hanek had 39 saves. Montville outshot SJU 41-19.
