SPARTA, NJ – A Sparta man is facing drunk driving charges after a hit and run accident on Route 15 on March 19. Around 7:37 p.m. Sparta police were told of the accident that occurred in Jefferson Township. Police Officer Tim Lynott and Corporal Joe Antonello found the car involved on Route 15 north, according to police.
When the officers approached the driver, Christopher Hayden they suspected he was intoxicated. Lynott had the 47-year-old Hayden perform field sobriety tests. He was taken into custody and transported to Sparta Police Department Headquarters for breath testing and processing.
Hayden was charged with DWI and careless driving. He was released to a sober adult pending a court date.
Jefferson Police are still investigating the hit and run aspect of the incident with possible additional charges pending, according to Sparta police.
