SPARTA, NJ – Sparta’s Johnny Langeraap is headed to Las Vegas having won the Bricklayer 500 Mason competition. Langeraap took the title of Best Bricklayer in the Northeast having won the Northeast Regional Series 2020 Spec Mix Bricklayer 500 competition in Richmond, Rhode Island on October 15.
In addition to the title and the free trip to Las Vegas to compete in the 2021 World Championship at the World of Concrete Expo, the team earned $2400, a $200 gift card from Ford Trucks, Marshaltown tool bag, Stabia Level.
Going head to head against 10 other teams of masons and tenders or assistants, Langeraap and his tender Luke Wikander took the top honor with a brick count of 543 as well as the award SPEC Mix Top Craftsman for having the “most sellable” wall.
According to the organization the regional series tests “speed, skill and stamina of bricklayers by building the best 26 foot wall in just one hour.”
The finals in Las Vegas have a total prize purse of $100,000 with the winner going home with $15,000 and prizes and a new Ford F250 Super Duty 4 x4.
