SPARTA, NJ – A Sparta man is under arrest after an incident on Sparta Avenue on July 12 around 9:33 p.m. Sparta Police Officers Chris Favaro and Tom Snyder responded to a call of a man walking on the side of the road near Quick Chek who threw a beer bottle at a car, according to police.
Snyder found Mark Shaw, 40, in the Reverend Brown school parking lot. Shaw admitted having thrown a bottle at the car because he wanted it to stop and give him a ride, police report.
The driver of the damaged car returned to the scene. The officers were able to see the small dent and scratches in the paint caused by the bottle.
Shaw was taken into custody and brought to Sparta Police Department headquarters for processing. Shaw was charged with criminal mischief and was released pending a court date.
