SPARTA, NJ – A Sparta Middle School student was selected to receive the Caring Award last week. The award was given to Gregory Puszcz after having been nominated by a school counselor.
He received the award at a breakfast hosted by the Sussex County School Counselors Association. Puszcz was nominated as a student “who demonstrates the values of helping and caring in human relationships. The award is giving to recognize generosity and selflessness among young people,” according to the association.
Puszcz was accompanied by his parents and both grandmothers. Speeches about each student were read during the breakfast at the Sussex County Community College.
Blair Scrudato, Puszcz’s counselor said, “At Sparta Middle School we are fortunate to have a wonderful group of eighth grade students who are kind and caring individuals. Greg goes beyond expectations within the school, around his peers, and in his community. He is caring, demonstrates friendly attitudes to other students and always strives to help others. His teachers and administrators characterize Greg as very pleasant, caring, and an attentive person. He does not strive for recognition; he focuses on the real and true values and contributions he can make."
