SPARTA, NJ – Sparta Township Councilman Gil Gibbs made the annual presentation of Patriot Awards to Laura Elnasser at the June 14 township council meeting.  Elnasser was nominated by Vicki Foley for the work she did to restart the Miss Sparta pageant.

Due to “reorganization issues” the pageant, a 79-year tradition, was not held.  “It was extremely hard to get the ball rolling again,” said Foley in her nomination.  Foley stepped in to run the Miss Sparta competition two years earlier but had extended personal health issues.  When Foley asked Elnasser to help with the event “not only did she come on board but she ran with it, “said Foley.  “She was the force behind this event.”

When giving the award to Elnasser, Councilman Gil Gibbs said “Without Laura’s efforts this year, the Miss Sparta pageant would not have happened.”

In her nomination, Foley concluded “I truly believe Laura Elnasser is the epitome of a true Spartan and very deserving of this award.”
