SPARTA, NJ – A man from Hopatcong walked into the Sparta Police Department headquarters to file a report and wound up under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated.

Police officer Tom Snyder met with Frederick Nickerson. After speaking with Nickerson, Snyder suspected he was under the influence of alcohol, according to police.  Nickerson was given a series of field sobriety tests, which he failed.

Since the 53-year-old Nickerson had driven himself to the police department, he was taken into custody, removed to the cellblock area for processing and breath testing.

Nickerson was charged with DWI and Careless driving. He was released several hours later to a sober adult pending a court date.
