SPARTA, NJ – A Hamburg man has been charged with driving while intoxicated after fighting with his girlfriend at the Homestead restaurant.  On September 29 around 6:50 p.m. Sparta Police Officer Erick Finley went to the restaurant to help an injured woman, police report.

The woman said she had been arguing with her boyfriend Dale Bielecki, 63 when she fell out of her chair hitting her head.  She said after she fell, Bielecki left her in the restaurant and went home, police report.

The First Aid Squad came to the Homestead but the injured woman refused medical attention.  While Finley was speaking with the woman Bielecki came back to the restaurant and started fighting with her again, police report.

Finley suspected Bielecki was intoxicated.  Sparta Cpl. Schomp and Cpl. Antonello also came to the scene to assist.  Finley gave Bielecki field sobriety tests and then took him into custody.  BIelecki was taken to Sparta Police Department headquarters for processing and breath testing, police report.

Bielecki was charged with DWI and careless driving.  He was released with a court date.
