SPARTA, NJ – A 25-year-old Staten Island man was pulled over on Route 15 for having a broken tail light and wound up facing drug charges. Sparta Police Office Taylor May stopped Moath Ahmad on April 2 around 8 p.m. In addition to the broken tail light, Ahmad drove his 2003 Dodge in the left lane, failing to keep right, police report.
May smelled raw marijuana when he spoke with Ahmad. When asked about the smell, Ahmad gave May a small metal container with Marijuana and a vape Ahmad said he used to smoke marijuana, police said.
May searched the vehicle and found more pot in a black bag. Ahmad was taken into custody and brought to Sparta Police Department headquarters. He was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Ahmad also got ticketed for maintenance of lamps, traffic on marked lanes and controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.
Ahmad was released pending a court date.
