SPARTA, NJ – Two Wall residents are facing drug charges after being stopped for a broken windshield. On August 18 around 10:10 a.m. Cpl. Marc Rubino smelled burnt marijuana coming from the car during the traffic stop on Route 15, according to police.
Police Officer Lynott, Police Officer Guido and Police Officer Finley arrived to provide backup. Rubino had the driver Cortland Cummings and passenger Gabriel Whitehead get out of the car so it could be searched. He found two ziplock bags of marijuana, one marijuana pipe, one rolling machine, one pack of rolling papers and one marijuana grinder, police report.
Cummings, 25 and Whitehead, 24 were taken into custody and brought to Sparta Police Department headquarters for processing. The police found Cummings had an outstanding warrant for $120, police report.
Cummings was able to post cash bail to take care of the warrant. He was charged cracked windshield, maintenance of lamps and open container of alcohol and given a court date.
Whitehead was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was also given a court date.
