SPARTA, NJ -Fortunately no one was injured when a Flanders man was driving the wrong way on Route 15. On February 5 around 3:07 a.m. Sparta Police Officer Steve Guido was driving southbound when he had to take evasive action because a car was driving right at him, according to police.
After avoiding a head on collision, Guido crossed over to the northbound lane to try to stop the 2011 Ford. Police Officer Erick FInley was also on Route 15 and saw the Ford make a U-Turn to drive in the southbound lane, according to police.
Finley was able to get Timo Klotzsche, 29, to pull over. Guido arrived at the scene and spoke with Klotzsche who did not know he almost hit the police officer, police report.
Guido suspected Klotzche was intoxicated and had him perform field sobriety tests. Klotzche was taken into custody at brought to the Sparta Police Department headquarters for processing and breath testing.
Klotzche was charged with DWI, reckless driving, wrong way on a one way street, improper u-turn, failure to keep right, failure to maintain a lane and failure to possess a driver's license.
He was released several hours later to a sober adult pending a court date.
