SPARTA, NJ –  A Dover man faces drug charges after getting pulled over for speeding on Route 15.  On January 8, around 12:12 pm, Sparta Cpl. Joe Antonello stopped a 2014 Honda on the southbound side of the highway, police report.

 When approaching the driver, Jhonny Garcia-Romero, Antonello smelled raw marijuana.  The police officer also saw loose marijuana on the seats of the vehicle, in the cup holder and on the floor, police report.

Antonello had the 23-year-old get out of the car so he could search it more thoroughly.  Antonello found a plastic bag of marijuana, a marijuana cigarette and a pack of rolling papers.

Garcia-Romero was placed under arrest and taken to Sparta Police Department Headquarters for processing. 

Garcia-Romero was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.  He was also ticketed for speeding, careless driving, failure to produce an insurance card and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. 

He was released pending a court date.
