SPARTA, NJ — Three people were taken into custody for various drug charges on one traffic stop. On October 8 around 10 a.m. Police Officer Steven Guido stopped a white box truck on Route 15 north for a broken break light, police report.
While speaking with the driver Richard Carranza, 38 of Newark and the passengers Ronnie Powell, 33, of Sayerville and Ronald Davis, 23, of Paterson, the officer smelled burned marijuana. Carranza told Guido he had smoked earlier in the day, police report.
When Guido searched the truck he found marijuana, drug paraphernalia and loose narcotic prescription pills. All three men were charged with possession of prescription pills, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, police report.
Carranza was also charged with maintenance of lamps, obstructed view and controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. Powell was also charged with failure to wear a seat belt.
They were given court dates and released.
