SPARTA, NJ – A Newton man is facing DWI charges after being found following a woman walking on the side of the road at Sparta Junction. Sparta Police were alerted to a dispute in the Sparta Junction area on February 13 around 2:30 a.m. Police Officer Tim Lynott found a on foot woman on the side of the road with Santos Diego, 37, driving a 2003 Ford slowly behind her, according to police.
Newton resident Diego appeared to Lynott to be intoxicated. He was given a series of field sobriety tests and taking into custody. Diego was brought to Sparta Police Department Headquarters for breath testing and processing.
Diegos was charged with DWI and careless driving. He was released to a sober adult pending a court date.
