SPARTA, NJ – A Branchville man faces drunk driving charges after causing a two car accident in Sparta on February 10.  Sparta Police Officer Tom Snyder went to a residence at 328 North Road to a two-car accident around 4 p.m., according to police.

The person who cause the accident Matthew Fletcher, had been backing out of the driveway in his 2005 Buick when he hit a 56-year-old woman from Newton in her 2011 Subaru, according to police.    

The 25-year-old Branchville resident appeared to be intoxicated as Snyder spoke with him.  After performing field sobriety tests, Fletcher was taken into custody.  He was brought to the Sparta Police Department headquarters for breath testing and processing.

Fletcher was charged with DWI, careless driving and failure to stop or yield.  He was released several hours later to a sober adult pending a court date.

No one was reported to have been injured in the accident, according to police.
