SPARTA, NJ – A Franklin man is facing drug charges after being pulled over for a broken light. Sparta Police Officer Steve Guido stopped Craig Rothacker on Route 15 around 3 a.m. on June 2. Rothacker’s 2006 Mitsubishi had no functioning license plate lights, according to police.
When Guido spoke with the 29-year-old he smelled raw marijuana. Guido searched the vehicle and found a zip lock bag of marijuana and a glass smoking pipe, police report.
Rothacker was taken into custody and brought to Sparta Police Department headquarters for processing. He was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Rothacker was also ticketed for maintenance of lamps and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.
He was released pending a court date.
