SPARTA, NJ –  A man from Hamburg has been charged with driving while intoxicated after being seen weaving in and out of the lane on Route 15.  Sparta Police Officer Thomas Herd was saw Amin Ashlesh cross the white fog line and double yellow lines several times on July 23 around 10:40 p.m. police report.

When Herd spoke with the 52-year-old, the officer smelled an alcoholic beverage.  Herd, assisted by Cpl. Craig Grauerholz, gave Ashlesh field sobriety tests and then took him into custody.  Ashlesh was transported to Sparta Police Department headquarters for processing, according to police.

Ashlesh was charged with DWI, careless driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, failure to maintain lane and failure to keep right.

Ashlesh was released to his wife pending a mandatory court appearance.
