SPARTA, NJ – Yet another traffic stop by Sparta Police on Route 15 has led to a drug related arrest. On June 23 at 10:15 a.m. Sparta Police Cpl. Marc Rubino stopped a 1998 Mercury driving in the left lane, for failing to move to the right lane even though it was available, as required by law on a multi lane highway, according to police.
After following Pierre Harris for a mile, Rubino pulled him over. When Rubino spoke with the 33-year-old Jersey City resident he smelled burnt marijuana. Rubino searched the car and found a small amount of marijuana in the ashtray, according to police.
Harris was taken into custody and brought to the Sparta Police Department headquarters for processing. Harris was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and ticketed for failure to keep right, maintenance of lamps and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.
He was released pending a court date.
