SPARTA, NJ – A Sparta woman who took out a mailbox with her car is facing drunk driving charges. On June 1 around 9:30 p.m. Police Officer Taylor May went to Conestoga Trail to follow up on a report of an accident, police said.
May found Carol Crispino, 61, in a black Volkswagen perched onto of the base of a mailbox. Suspecting she had been drinking alcohol, May had Crispino get out of the car and perform field sobriety tests. Crispino was then taken into custody, police report.
Crispino was taken to the Sparta Police Department Headquarters for processing and breath testing. She was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless deriving, failing to obey stop/yield sign, improper turn and failure to keep right, police said.
She was given a court date and released to a sober adult.
