SPARTA, NJ - With deep regret, Sparta Chief of Police, Ernest I. Reigstad announced today the passing of retired Sparta Police Communications Officer and Vietnam Combat Veteran Robert W. Jennings.  The 71-year-old Jennings who was under Hospice care, passed away this past Saturday at his home in Frankford with his beloved wife of 45 years, Jolinda at his side.

Jennings, Bobby to those who knew him, was a strong positive fixture of the Sparta Police Department for decades. He was well known, respected and admired by all members of Sussex County Law Enforcement.  He will always be remembered as A True American Hero.  A man of conviction and strength, Jennings was a Sergeant in the United States Army.  He served his country proudly and with distinction in Vietnam. Having been seriously wounded in combat, Jennings was awarded the Purple Heart. After being Honorably Discharged from the Army, Bobby and Jolinda settled in Frankford.

Jennings is survived by his wife Jolinda, his daughter Tina and her fiancé, John Phillips, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, his brother Frank of Sebring Florida and his sister Laraine of Branchville along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Wood Funeral Home, 16 Main Street, Branchville.  Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4 until  8 p.m.   Sgt. Jennings will be laid to rest with full Military Honors at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Branchville Cemetery.
