SPARTA, NJ – A Newark man was stopped on Tomahawk Trail because his car did not have an inspection sticker. When Sparta Police Officer Tom Snyder approached the Ford van driver Andre Lugo, on July 4 at 6:09 p.m., Snyder smelled marijuana, according to police.
Lugo, 36, denied knowing anything about the marijuana. Snyder searched the van and found a zip lock bag containing marijuana under the front passenger seat. Lugo then claimed the marijuana was his, police report.
Lugo was taken into custody and brought to the Sparta Police Department headquarters for processing. He was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Lugo was ticketed for an unregistered vehicle.
Lugo was released pending a court date.
