SPARTA, NJ – A Newton woman died in a head-on collision on Newton-Sparta road early Tuesday morning.  Sparta police are still investigating what caused Andover resident Sean Hubbard to cross the double yellow lines just west of Pickneyville Road according to Lt. John Lamon.

Hubbard, 33, was traveling in the eastbound lane in a white Nissan Altima around 7 a.m. when he drove into the opposite lane colliding into a black Honda Civic driven by Ena Cordero, 62, police report.

All three people in the two cars were injured and both cars were extremely damaged according to Lamon.  Hubbard suffered hip and leg injuries and was flown to Morristown Medical Center by Atlantic Air 1.  The front seat passenger in the Altima, Megan Miguel a 25-year-old Wharton resident suffered superficial injuries and was brought to Newton Medical Center, according to police.

Cordero suffered blunt force trauma in the collision. The Sparta police administered CPR at the scene before she was transported to Newton Medical Center.  Cordero did not survive her injuries, police report.

Initially Newton-Sparta Road had to be closed for nearly three hours as the accident was investigated.

“Detectives are trying to interview the passenger and any witnesses,” Lamon said as Sparta Detectives and Sparta Accident Reconstructionist continue to investigate the accident.
