SPARTA, NJ – A Sparta man found parked behind the Blue Heron office building now has drug charges pending.  On January 7 around 11:30 p.m. Cpl. Mark Mastandrea was on patrol and found Joshua Mead, 19 and another person in a four door Ford police report.

Mead told the officer they were just listening to music.  The officer saw a marijuana pipe sitting on the center console and smelled marijuana in the car, according to police.

Mead admitted to Mastandrea that the pipe was his and said he also had a bag of weed in his backpack, which he turned over to Mastandrea.  Sgt. Fraser and Cpl. Morris assisted with a search of the car which did not yield any additional contraband, police report.

Mead was taken to Sparta Police Department headquarters and charged with controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.  He was released with a court date.
