SPARTA, NJ – A Sparta woman asleep behind the wheel of her corvette has been charged with driving while intoxicated.  Sparta Police Officer Thomas Herd went to the intersection of Stanhope Road and Winona Parkway at 2:14 a.m. on August 22 where he found Amy Redmond slumped over the wheel, police report.

Sparta Cpl. Graueholz arrived to assist.  The officers had to be careful waking Redmond because the car was in drive and her foot was on the brake, according to police.

Redmond was given field sobriety tests and taken into custody.  She was taken to Sparta Police Department headquarters for processing and breath testing.

Redmond was charged with DWI, careless driving, delaying traffic, no insurance card and no front plate.  She was released pending a court date.
