SPARTA, NJ – A Sparta woman was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated on Oct 4 after police received reports of an erratic driver.  Cpl Craig Grauerholz went to Woodport Road to look for the car that had been reported, according to a report.

The white Volkswagon Jetta was seen at a traffic light at Woodport Road and Sparta Avenue at 4:42 p.m., police said.  Grauerholz turned around and began to follow the car, driven by Jennifer Liland, 47.  The police officer saw the car cross the double yellow lines.  He finally stopped the Liland on “West Mountain Road in the area of Sparta High School,” police reported.

When she was pulled over Grauerholz suspected Liland was driving under the influence of alcohol.  When asked, Liland “flatly refused” to do a field sobriety test according to police.  She was taken into custody and transported to Sparta Police Department headquarters.

Liland was also charged criminally for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence with a minor child in the vehicle.

Liland was released several hours later to a sober adult pending a court date.
