SPARTA, NJ – A Sussex man stopped for speeding faces several charges related to driving while intoxicated.  Sparta Police Officer Erick Finley stopped a 2013 Hyundai for speeding on Route 15 on December 20 around 1:20 a.m. according to police.

The driver was stopped when he exited onto Route 517.  Finley suspected Robert Acevedo was intoxicated when he spoke with him.  The 27-year-old underwent field sobriety testing and was taken into custody, according to police.

When he arrived at the Sparta Police Department headquarters, he refused to give an adequate breath sample, police report.  He was charged with refusal to submit to breath test, DWI, driving with a suspended drivers license and registration, failure to possess a drivers license and registration, speeding and careless driving.

He was released several hours later to a sober adult pending a court date.
