SPARTA, NJ – A man from Homdel was stopped for speeding on Route 15 and wound up under arrest on drug charges. On January 9 around 9 a.m. Sparta Police Officer Steven Guido stopped a Mini Cooper driven by Justin Fernandes, 26, police report.
When speaking with Fernandes the officer smelled raw marijuana in the car. When Guido asked the driver, Fernandes admitted he had some pot in the glovebox. Fernandes gave Guido a partially smoked joint, according to police.
Sparta Police Officer Lynott helped with a search of the car. The search turned up two metal Marijuana pipes which Fernandes claimed was his. He was taken into custody and brought to Sparta Police Department headquarters, police report.
Fernandes was charged with speeding, controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, obstructed view, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released with a court date.
