SPARTA, NJ – A Sparta man was stopped for speeding on Woodport Road ended up with a trip to the Sparta Police Department Headquarters on driving while intoxicated charges according to police.
On September 22 around 3 a.m. Police Officer Chris Favaro saw Matthew McEachern, 31 driving his red BMW driving 59 MPH in a 40 MPH zone. Favaro pulled McEachern over on East Mountain Road, police report.
When the officer spoke with McEachern, Favaro smelled alcohol in the car. McEachern was given field sobriety tests as other officers arrived to assist, police report.
McEachern was taken to police headquarters for breath testing and processing. He was charged with speeding, careless driving and DWI. He was released to a sober adult with a court date.
