SPARTA, NJ – A Cedar Grove resident was charged with driving while intoxicated after being stopped for speeding on Route 15 north. On July 21 around 3 a.m. Cpl. Kurt Morris pulled over Steven Kudlacik for driving his green Subaru 80 MPH in a 55 MPH zone, police said.
When Morris spoke with the 24-year-old driver the officer smelled alcohol. Morris had Kudlacik get out of his car to perform field sobriety test. Before starting the tests he lost his balance and fell into the side of his car, police said.
Kudlacik was taken into custody and brought to Sparta Police Department headquarters for breath testing and processing. He was charged with DWI, refusal to submit a breath sample, careless driving and speeding.
He was released to his mother with a court date.
