SPARTA, NJ – A traffic stop for speeding ended with a man from Maspeth, NY facing drug charges.  On February 10 around 10 p.m. Sparta Police Officer Erick Finley pulled over a 2016 Buick for speeding on Route 15 North, according to police.

When speaking with the driver Kamil Jakubiak, 22, of Glendale, NY, Finley smelled burnt marijuana.  Finley also questioned the 22-year-old passenger.  Piotr Ploszai of Maspeth admitted he had smoked marijuana earlier in the car, police report.

Ploszai gave Finley a marijuana cigarette he had hidden in his shoe and admitted there was more pot in a bag in the glove box.  Finley and Sparta Cpl. Rick Smith took the pot and charged Ploszai with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, police report.

Ploszia was released pending a court date.

The driver, Jakubiak was charged with speeding, driving without a license, controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle and failure to remove snow and ice from a vehicle.  He was also released pending a court date.
