SPARTA, NJ – A lit cigarette tossed from a moving car caught the attention of Sparta Police Cpl. Dan Elig on Route 15. Elig watched Helen Plucienniczak, 40, swerve in her lane around 9:30 p.m. on August 19 before stopping her, according to police.
When Elig spoke with Plucienniczak he smelled alcohol in the car. The Bloomfield resident admitted to Elig that she had two beers, police report.
Sparta Sgt. Hannam and Cpl. Smith arrived to provide back up as Elig had Plucienniczak was given field sobriety tests. She was taken into custody and brought to the Sparta Police Department headquarters for processing and breath testing, according to police.
Plucienniczak was charged with DWI, littering, careless driving, DWI within 1000 feet of a school and failure to produce valid insurance. She was giving a court date and released to a sober adult.
