SPARTA, NJ-  A man from Monroe, stopped for having an expired registration for his red four door Chevrolet ended up facing drug charges.  On March 17 around 2:13 p.m. Sparta Cpl. Dan Elig pulled over Mark Kern, 25, police report.

When the officer spoke with Kern he smelled burnt marijuana.  Kern admitted to Elig there was a half smoked marijuana cigarette in the car, which he turned over to the officer, police say.

Sgt. Pensado and Officer Herd arrived to assist as the car was searched.  They found a black marijuana grinder, a pack of rolling papers and a “raw hemp” cigarette roller.  Kern was taken into custody and brought to Sparta Police Department headquarters for processing, police report.

Kern was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, unregistered vehicle, possession of controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. He was given a court date and released.
