SPARTA, NJ – A car parked behind the Sparta movie theater drew the attention of Sparta Police Officers, leading to the arrest of two women.
Sparta Cpl. Richard Smith was checking on businesses in the Sparta Theater Center and ran a check on the license plates of the car with two occupants when the car pulled out of the lot, according to police.
Smith followed the car as it drove up Woodport Road, stopping it at the post office. Police Officer Thomas Herd arrived to assist Smith with driver Allison Schneider, 20, and passenger Ambyr Galway, 21, according to police.
Smith smelled marijuana when he approached the car. When the car was searched Smith found under 50 grams of marijuana, a glass marijuana pipe, a metal marijuana pipe and a partially consumed bottle of vodka, police report.
Sparta Sgt. Pensado, Cpl. Grauerholz and Police Officer Elig all arrived to assist. Both women were taken into custody and transported to Sparta Police Department headquarters for processing, police report.
Smith and Herd ticketed Schneider for maintenance of lamps, improper display, controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, open container and throwing debris from a motor vehicle. She was also charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released pending a court date.
Galway was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Due to having a past criminal history, Galway was brought to the Keogh Dwyer Correctional Facility in Newton pending a court date, according to police.
