SPARTA, NJ — A Newark man was picked up when the car in which he was riding was stopped for speeding. On June 8 around 11:50 a.m. Sparta Police Officer Thomas Herd pulled over Tashiana Martin, 27, of West Orange for speeding, police report.
When Herd spoke with Martin he smelled marijuana in the car. Herd also saw that passenger Ibenabdul Harden, 28, was not wearing a seat belt. When the officer asked for Harden’s identification, Harden said he might have a warrant for an unpaid tickets, police said.
Herd found that Harden had a warrant out of Paterson. When asked about the marijuana smell, Harden said the marijuana found in the car was his, police said.
Martin was ticketed for speeding, obstructed license plate and controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.
Harden was taken to Sparta Police Department headquarters where he was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to wear seat belt. Harden posted bail on the warrant and was given a new court date.
